We are often able to source our ingredients locally, which is fun to tell the students. They love the feeling of the hard wheat in their fingers.

We request that parents come to help with the hands-on learning elements of the program. They usually have as much fun as the students!

The students each make their own tiny loaf of bread. This one is ready to go home for a perfect after school snack!

Braided Christmas Bread

During the month of December you have the opportunity to request Braided Christmas Bread. We use the same whole wheat bread recipe but make things a bit more festive for the holiday season.

Easter Bread

Easter Bread is offered in the spring or year round to grade 3 classes to correspond with their unit on Ukraine. The bread is braided and baked around a hard-boiled egg. After, the students are able to decorate it using traditional Ukrainian symbols.

Sifting Flour
Sifting Flour

The children learn about different varieties of flour and their nutritional value during the first half of the presentation. Later, they are able to touch, smell, and even sift flour to further see it's differences.

We bake many loaves of bread together during a presentation, but don't worry, we have pans that bake many tiny loaves at once.

Grinding the Wheat

We focus on at least 2 ways that wheat can be ground into flour and even give the children an opportunity to use their strength and grind some themselves.
